Moving from HOG[SCAN]
You don’t have to switch HOG[SCAN] off to start using Kickstand. Most chapters run both for a while: members, the calendar and challenge cards move over, and anything Kickstand doesn’t do yet stays where it is. This page says what moves, what you start fresh, and what isn’t here yet.
What moves over
Section titled “What moves over”| From HOG[SCAN] | Into Kickstand | How |
|---|---|---|
| Your member list | Members | Download your roster as a CSV, then import it. See below. |
| Your calendar | Calendar (Platform plan) | Paste your calendar’s subscribe link and Kickstand copies it every hour. |
| Seasons you tracked by hand | A challenge’s cards | Load riders’ Word cards. |
Step 1: Bring your members across
Section titled “Step 1: Bring your members across”- In HOG[SCAN], open Chapter Administration and find the downloads. Download your chapter roster as a CSV file. It has an option to include expired and blocked members. Leave it off unless you want lapsed members on your roster.
- In Kickstand, open Chapter console, click Members, then Import roster.
- Choose the file, read the preview, and import. Nobody is emailed until you click Invite N to the app.
Two things to know about the HOG[SCAN] file:
- Members with no email. HOG[SCAN] gives a member who has no email a made-up address at hogscan.com. Kickstand can’t add those. They show on Needs a look with “Addresses at hogscan.com can’t be added to Kickstand.” Get each member’s real address into the file and import again.
- H.O.G. IDs and expiration dates. The HOG[SCAN] roster is the place for emails. For National IDs and expiration dates, import H.O.G.’s Membership Report after it. That report has no emails, and a row with only an ID updates a member who is already on your roster.
Emergency contacts don’t come across. Each member adds their own in Kickstand, and the app keeps asking until it’s there. See Emergency contact and privacy.
The full steps, the preview and how people with an account are asked first are in Import your roster and invite everyone.
Step 2: Copy your calendar
Section titled “Step 2: Copy your calendar”- In the Chapter console, click Calendar, then Officers: calendar settings at the bottom.
- Paste your HOG[SCAN] calendar’s ICS subscribe link. Many chapter sites have it at /calendar/feed.
- Click Save. Kickstand tells you how many events it copied.
Copied events arrive without an open or closed label, so open each one and mark it. H.O.G. asks every chapter to say which an event is. The steps, and what happens when you edit a copied event, are in Run the chapter calendar.
Step 3: Load past seasons
Section titled “Step 3: Load past seasons”If your chapter tracked a season by hand with one Word document per rider, load those cards into a challenge and the stops show on each rider’s card. See Load riders’ Word cards.
HOG[SCAN] check-ins, points and mileage history don’t come across.
What you start fresh
Section titled “What you start fresh”- Photo galleries. Albums from your HOG[SCAN] site stay there. In Kickstand, an event’s album starts itself when a member adds the first photo after the event begins, and you can start any other album yourself, like one for the banquet. Members can add photos too. See Run the photo gallery.
- Challenges. Your chapter’s bingo card is a Kickstand challenge. Build it, then invite riders. See Set up a challenge in 15 minutes.
- Ride 365 mileage. Kickstand reminds members to report their odometer readings and shows you how many have. Those counts are your chapter’s own tracking, not H-D’s. See Track Ride 365 reports and the Chrome Chapter checklist.
Not in Kickstand yet
Section titled “Not in Kickstand yet”Keep using HOG[SCAN] for these until they arrive:
- Blog posts and newsletters
- Your chapter website
- Event check-in, with points and mileage per event
- Dues and payments
- Text messages to members
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Nothing in Kickstand changes anything on HOG[SCAN]. The calendar copy only reads your link.
- Calendar and photos come with the Chapter Platform plan. See Choose a plan and pay for it.
- Member data belongs to H.O.G. Import only what your chapter rules allow.
- If you’re setting up a new chapter, start with Start here: the setup guide. Its steps cover the same ground in order.
