Put the app on your home screen

Kickstand runs in your phone’s browser, and it’s nicer on your home screen. It gets its own icon next to your other apps, opens full screen with no address bar, and you skip the typing. There’s nothing to download from an app store, and it’s the same app with the same account and card.

When you open Kickstand in a phone or tablet browser, a card on Home offers to do it. On a computer you won’t see the card, and the app works the same in any browser.

Apple doesn’t let a website ask you to install it, so the card shows the steps instead.

  1. Tap the Share button in your browser, the square with an arrow.
  2. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add.

The Kickstand icon lands on your home screen. If Add to Home Screen isn’t in the list, open Kickstand in Safari and try there.

  1. When your browser is ready, the card on Home shows an Add to home screen button. Tap it.
  2. Confirm in the box your browser shows, usually Install or Add.

No card? Open your browser’s menu (the three dots) and tap Install app or Add to Home screen.

  • Not now holds it off for 30 days. Tap Not now and the card goes away, then comes back once a month until the app is on your home screen. After you add it, it doesn’t come back.
  • You may need to sign in again. On an iPhone the home-screen app can be separate from your browser, so the first time you open it from the icon you may need a new sign-in code. See Signing in without a password.
  • New to Kickstand? The card also shows on the Join a chapter screen, so you can add the app before you join.
  • Opened from a link inside another app? Facebook, Instagram and similar apps open links in their own browser, which can’t add to the home screen. Open the link in Safari or Chrome instead.
